Church decorated with candles during a ceremony – Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest
Candle Crafts
The candle is one of the inventions that advance human civilisations. It allows the human race to increase the day by bringing light into the darkness of the night. Candle crafts are like many things in the world, the artistic side of human nature allows us to create something truly beautiful using wax making candle craft an art form in itself.
Although it is largely replaced by electronic lighting, candles still play a large role in the society and are still used widely in different ceremonies and celebrations. A perfect gift for many occasions and a hobby that allows the artist to bring beauty.
Candle Carving
The process of candle carving is simple in theory on paper, but hard to master in practice. A candle core (usually in the shape of a six-pointed star) is dipped into the wax of different colours or shades to create multiple layers. While the wax is still warm and soft, the artist peels off different layers of the candles and form patterns. There is only around ten to fifteen minutes of time for the artist to do the carving before the wax hardens.
Like many art forms, it is hard to accurately trace the origin of the art of candle carving. The carving style used in Just Crafting studio is commonly believed that it originated from Germany during the Middle Ages. It is used to decorate candles in churches, especially during the Easter ceremonies as well as for Baptisms and Funerals.
